FAQs

Help, I'm new to this!

Jagua comes from the juice of the jagua plant. It can be thickened and applied to skin, leaving a stain that lasts 2-3 weeks.

You can buy ready to use jagua that we've mixed here in house. It's perishable, but will last a year if stored in the freezer.

You can also buy raw ingredients to mix your own.

We have both Ready to Use Jagua Kits and DIY Jagua Kits available with complete instructions on how to get started!

Will it show up on my skin?

Jagua shows up very dark on all skin tones! It's extremely pigmented, so you'll get great stains.

Just like henna, jagua will be darkest on hands and feet.

When you first remove it from your skin, it will be extremely pale and possibly invisible! Trust the process, it will darken up dramatically over the course of 1-2 days.

How does it work?

When you first apply the jagua to your skin, it will be wet and takes 30-60 min to dry. Leave it on your skin for a few hours so it can soak in, then wash with soap and water.

Once you wash it off, the stain might be really light - but it's working! It will gradually darken up on it's own over 1-2 days.

... but I can't draw :(

So many people who say they can't draw find that they have a knack for it with henna & jagua! It's not the same as using a pen/pencil. If you're still unsure, we have Stencil Sets that will help you build confidence while you're learning. They are not stickers, instead they let you copy any design to skin that you can then trace over with the henna or jagua. So, while you're making a gorgeous design you're also practicing!

I want to mix my own, what do I need?

Our kits have everything you need, but if you just want the raw ingredients you'll need one 10g pack of jagua gel powder or 100ml of jagua juice, plus a few drops of a "terp" essential oil.

Our recipe is included with every order, plus you can find it here!

What is jagua powder vs. gel powder?

Jagua powder is 100% dehydrated jagua juice. You can add your own thickener to make jagua gel, or blend with henna powder.

Jagua gel powder is dehydrated jagua juice with thickener already added. It's convenient and ready for you to make into jagua gel. It's not meant for mixing with henna.

Should I get juice or powder?

If you want to mix your own jagua or a blend of henna+jagua, you can use either jagua juice or jagua powder. Here's what can help you decide:

Powder has a longer shelf life. It's best the first year, but can even last 2-3 years if stored properly.

Juice gives the darkest stains. If you're making a jagua-henna blend, it will be a slightly smoother consistency than if you use the powder.
